Moment
C. A. Meraz
You were the most beautiful moment I had ever seen; you were perfect. Soft black hair, midnight-blue eyes, gentle to the touch. I knew it was love. I had dreams,
visualizing this day, this moment, this, you. As I embraced you in my arms, I knew and so did you. I never knew I could feel that way—until I saw you smile, then laugh, then cry.
I’ve watched you grow into a very wonderful young man. You made me so proud. We are one and the same yet so different as well. The day you laughed, I cried. The day you spoke, I was speechless,
and the day you took your first steps, I had to sit down.
I remember your first day of school; I didn’t want to let you go. I sat at home and waited, alone. I remember calling 911 when you fell off of your bike, eight stitches. I remember your first crush,
first broken heart. I remember your first girlfriend, second broken heart. I remember when your father left us, third broken heart. I remember your wedding day and saw that same smile you have always
had, and cried. I knew there was nothing I could do, you were gone. You wiped the tears from my face and I knew because you knew. My time with you was done, I’ve loved you with all my heart and I will
always be watching. Fourth broken heart.
